Photos from Asia's quietest Capital City - must be because over 50% of Laotians are under 20 years old. Young people rock!

Chau Doc – Vientiane
Started off with a lovely boat ride on the Hong Chau ferry to the Vietnamese border and once we were in Vietnam a lovely night at Chau Doc. Stayed in a lovely hotel and hade some great, cheap food including a cup of lotus seeds. We then left Chau Doc by bus to go to Ho Chi Minh City, formally known as Saigon, where we stayed for a while waiting on Chinese Visas. After Ho Chi Minh we got the overnight train to Danang and had a night there (it wasn’t our best Vietnamese experience – good pizza though!). After Danang we jumped on a day train to go to Hue,` the train ride there was amazing as you go through all these amazing mountains overlooking sandy beautiful beaches. Hue` was not a bad town and we saw some friends we had met in HCMC. After Hue` we got the (non-air-conditioned) bus to the Vietnam-Laos border and once we were in Laos traveled to Savvanakhet. We didn’t end up staying the night there and instead got on the overnight bus to the Laoation capital Vientiane (that bus ride was one to remember). We arrived in Vientiane at 5:30am in the morning and because it was the Laoation New Year everything was closed. Also for the New Year everyone throws water at people and when we got there it was raining. But even with people throwing water at us and the fact that it was raining we managed to find a hotel. Vientiane is the quietest capital city I have ever been to. While we have been here we have been doing lots of touristy things including going to see That Dam Stupa, climbing up to the top of a 7 storey high monument and visiting a place explaining all about the Laoation bomb victims from the Vietnam war when America bombed Laos (it is called the “Secret War”). Kids are still finding the bombs and playing with them today which results in serious injuries or even death. Laos is not as busy as all the other Asian countries and not as popular as some of the others may be, it is quite nice for just relaxing and not doing much. Our hotel does not have a pool but we did find time to use one from another hotel. I think the best thing we did in Vietnam was ten pin bowling in HCMC and as for Laos…..well, we still have a lot more of it to go. Some pictures first and a blog to follow.
So I got a bit caught up with school work in Kampot - sorry the blogs are a bit empty of words.
