Cruising To Thailand

Firstly a huge thankyou to my friends for all of your comments - you guys rock!!

After a week at Sembawang in Singapore, with lots of swimming and eating, we had to leave our big, quiet house behind and continue on our big trip. Next stop: Cruise City!

We got on our cruise on the 21st of February and got off 3 days later in Thailand. It was really very nice although I must say there were a lot of loud Indian kids who were roaming the ship without supervision. The shows were very good (magic and cabaret) and the food was excellent.

From where we boarded the ship at deck 5 up to the taverna and pool area on deck 13 is just like a big floating hotel. The ship had 10 restaurants and 4 pools (although only two main pools) and a massive water slide that only my Dad went on. There were loads of fun activities and things to do so we were always entertained. We were balcony class so we could sit outside and look over the edge and see everything below us, including lots of jellyfish just bobbing around in the ocean.

Some of the entertainment included a quiz where one of the questions was name 5 primary colours – the answers included white and black but not blue or red!! Some Indian boys won the quiz although I got a medal given to me for being the only quiet kid there!

Overall it was breathtaking and I would certainly do it again. When we got off the ship it was just as good though as we came to Phuket and it is also amazing. It has great beaches and apart from getting sun burnt we have enjoyed it so far.

Here we are staying in a place called the Amanta House which is really nice and it’s only a 2 minute walk to Patong beach which is quite a funny beach really. First you pay a man 80 Baht ($2.65) to put an umbrella over your chosen sun lounge. Next you swim and then you sit on your sun lounge and laugh at all of the people walking up and down the beach with G-Strings and no tops on – they’re usually European who have really dark tans. When we went on the first day we fell asleep (we were up late on our last night on the ship in the Karaoke lounge!) and through the umbrellas we got burnt.

Thailand is very busy and there are so many types of transport zooming around. There are also lots of dogs over here that look like Dingoes which if you touch them feel disgusting. Parts of Patong do have a bazaar smell which smells kind of like sewerage. There are also a lot of motorbikes over here which people are able to fit 4 people on if they try. We decided to just walk everywhere because it is so chaotic.

Another thing I have noticed is how warm the water is over here – it is a perfect temperature and is very enjoyable to swim in. In the sun when swimming you can see fish (some quite long) through the crystal clear water.

This is now the fourth country on this trip and for me they have all been great so I can’t wait to continue.

Steve, Chieme, Saki and Rudi were regular lunch and dinner partners with us 5 years ago. The Chakra restaurant opened just a few months before we left JB - it made us all think of Dom and Sarue who introduced us to the great food, service and atmosphere.

Johor Bahru

Arrived in Johor with our friends in their four-wheel drive which was much better than squishing 7 people into a 4 seater sports car – something we did on a number of occasions in Singapore! We were staying with our old friends in their condo - they have two kids; Saki who is my age and Rudi who is 8. They were at school most of the time so I had to hang out with my parents.

We lived in Johor Bahru when I was 4-6 years old. There seemed to be a lot of change although I remembered very little of the town and places. We did lots of shopping, went ten pin bowling and swam. When the kids were at home we swam, played dodge ball and indoor cricket and walked their dog. At the condominium they live in there is a 20 metre pool, a gym, squash courts and tennis courts!
We also went to a lot of restaurants that we went to when we lived there and some new ones too. I was sleeping in the kid’s room so every morning I would get up at quarter to 7 and we would have breakfast, walk the dog and then take the kids to school all before half past seven.

It was fun to be back in Malaysia and it brought back lots of memories but Australia is still my number one place to be.

Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo was awesome. We have been before so many times when we lived in Malaysia but I don’t recall much of those visits so seeing it again was great. It is a great tourist attraction that is filled with incredible animals. We travelled by MRT (Train) and a bus just to get there and while we were in the zoo we got a boat. It was wonderful to see all the animals again. Now although we didn’t get to swim we did see a lot of screaming kids getting swamped by buckets of water at the play area while eating our lunch. All the animals were amazing and there were so many of them too. It wasn’t how I remembered it and a lot has changed but it is still a great zoo and one of my favorites of all. To top it off all the days have been boiling over here you see but we picked a perfect one as it wasn’t too hot and at one stage there were even a few drops of rain. So all in all Singapore Zoo was excellent!!!!!!! And good luck at schoolJ

Happy Australia Day !!! We arrived here on Friday night after being on a plane for four hours from Darwin, it's hot here but not too hot so it's just right. The first couple of nights we were here we stayed in a hotel room and from then onwards we've been staying at a friends house, they have two boys and live in an apartment with a huge pool. We have been into Chinatown which is very busy and Little India which is much calmer and quieter. To get to both of those places we rode the MRT which is an underground train. For meals we have been eating out most of the time and accasionally sitting at the table. I hope everyone is happy and having lots and lots of fun:). As for me well I'm stuck with my Mum and Dad for a year.
