Surin - Elephant Capital of.....well, the World probably!

We got to Surin three days ago by a day train which took 7-8 hours and while we are here have been staying at the Majestic hotel which is basically in the town centre. While we have been here we have seen lots of unusual sights including Elephants walking around the streets, which I found most bizarre. We were walking down the street and suddenly we saw one walking towards us, compared to it we looked like midgets, its feet were like telegraph poles. Then when we were sat having dinner the Elephants and their trainers were walking right up to the door, so on our second night we decided to feed them, for four pieces of sugar cane it was 20 baht (that’s just over 50 cents) it was amazing watching their massive trunk coming at you to grab some of their food.
It’s not just Elephants that Surin has a lot of either, there is a massive amount of shops here as well for a small town, Surin only has a population of 41,200 people but lots and lots of shops including one big department store and a Tesco’s.
Surin is 1000 years old but was abandoned and found again 300 years ago. It is very different to Bangkok and much less chaotic so it was definitely a change but not too big of one. All of us have loved it and it has been one of our favorite places so far. But we still have a long way to go so who knows what will come next.

Thank you again to all my friends who have been leaving messages and I hope you enjoy school camp.
Pics of me with Elephants in a couple of days hopefully. Off to a new country tomorrow!!
